OVERVIEW
Echoing Green seeks a passionate and detail-oriented Coordinator, with 2+ years of relevant experience, especially in event planning, to help us support the incredible Echoing Green Fellows and Alumni. The Coordinator will manage data and organize events as part of the Fellow and Alumni team.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Every year, Echoing Green finds 20 incredible, ambitious, exciting potential leaders and then offers them 2 years of funding and support. Over the past 25 years we have supported over 500 social entrepreneurs.
The Coordinator for Fellow and Alumni programs provides day-to-day support for the vital roles of event logistics and data management, as well as other key projects. The Coordinator provides targeted support to a team that includes three Associates with responsibilities for managing the Fellow and Alumni programs. The Coordinator reports to the Senior Associate of Fellow Programs.
While the Fellowship program has been in existence for 25 years, the Fellow and Alumni team is re-envisioning components of the program to make this core service offering more robust and catalytic. The ideal candidate, then, is eager to operate and execute, and also impassioned about the potential to align fellow and alumni programs with Echoing Green’s broader social change agenda.
Responsibilities of the Coordinator, Fellow and Alumni Programs include, but are not limited to:
Event Support
One way that we support fellows and alumni is by planning and delivering fantastic events and conferences that help fellows, alumni, and other partners deepen their relationship to Echoing Green, the greater community and, most importantly, each other. Currently, our calendar includes three to four major events each year.
·Manage the invitation and recruitment process, tracking internal and external RSVPs
·Direct all planning logistics – including working with vendors, arranging travel and lodging for attendees, and planning thoughtful meeting set-up
·Maintain expenses within approved budgets; manage reimbursements
·Provide on-site support during all events
Search and Selection Management
·Manage external communication with applicants and application reviewers
·Manage website content as it relates to the application timeline
·Manage relationship with application software vendor
Database Management
Echoing Green receives more than 2,500 applications each year for up to 20 fellowship positions. Over the past 25 years we have supported over 500 different social entrepreneurs. As a data-driven organization that seeks to keep close track of our fellows, data management is an important task.
·Update and generate reports from our Fellow, Alumni, and contact database, salesforce.com
·Maintain current content for the Fellow and Alumni pages on the Echoing Green website
·Manage lists and spreadsheets that help us monitor our annual application process
·Collect Fellow reports from portfolio managers, coordinate Fellow payments, and track metrics data and transactions in Salesforce
·Manage online community/commitment to keeping the momentum and responding to requests
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
·Passion for Echoing Green’s mission, with a commitment to social entrepreneurship and supporting next generation social innovators
·Demonstrated experience planning high-impact large and small-scale events (conference planning experience preferred)
·Demonstrated excellence managing data, ideally with a relationship management focus. salesforce.com or other CRM database experience a plus
·Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with multiple stakeholder types
·Passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, organizing tasks and data, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
·Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and committed to meeting deadlines
·Strong ability to work independently, but also desire for and experience with working in high-performing teams

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years experience. This is a full-time position based in New York City. Echoing Green offers a competitive compensation package, with benefits, commensurate with experience. Start date is March 2012.

Open Position: Senior Associate, Black Male Achievement Fellowship

OVERVIEW
Echoing Green seeks a visionary project manager and relationship builder with seven+ years of relevant experience and a demonstrated passion for supporting black men and boys in the United States. The Senior Associate will serve on Echoing Green’s team that manages the search, selection, and support of an incredible group of promising social entrepreneurs.
ABOUT ECHOING GREEN AND THE BMA FELLOWSHIP
Echoing Green unleashes next generation talent to solve the world’s biggest problems. Through a two-year fellowship program, we help our network of visionaries develop new solutions to society’s most difficult problems. These social entrepreneurs and their organizations work to solve deeply-rooted social, environmental, economic, and political inequities to ensure equal access and to help all individuals reach their potential. To date, Echoing Green has invested $30 million in seed funding in nearly 500 social entrepreneurs and their innovative organizations. Echoing Green Fellows include Wendy Kopp of Teach For America, Van Jones of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, and many more.
In 2011, Echoing Green and the Open Society Foundations launched an innovative new fellowship program to support game-changing social entrepreneurs in the field of Black Male Achievement. For the pilot Class of 2012, up to eight individuals will be selected for the Open Society Black Male Achievement Fellowship, powered by Echoing Green. BMA Fellows live and work in their home region, working to launch their innovative new organization. They receive a $70,000 stipend to support their work, as well as an intensive 18-months of professional development conferences and access to the broader Echoing Green and Open Society Foundation communities. ABOUT THE POSITION
The BMA Fellowship represents the first new fellowship program launched by Echoing Green since our founding, and therefore represents a major bet with high strategic importance. We seek an energetic and entrepreneurial leader for this pilot project who brings the passion and skills to manage the details while simultaneously helping us plan for the future.
The Senior Associate, Black Male Achievement Fellowship will provide day-to-day management of our search, selection, and support processes for these individuals. The Senior Associate serves on a team that provides support to all Echoing Green Fellows and alumni, and reports to the Director of Fellow and Alumni Programs.
Direct Fellow Support / Counseling
- Manage a portfolio of up to eight BMA Fellows – supporting their reporting requirements to Echoing Green, monitoring their progress, and helping to identify resources and develop tools that support their success
- Directly manage support programs for Fellows, including advisory service projects, where fellows are paired with outside experts who provide short-term consulting help to the fellow
Relationship Management
- Creating new partnerships to encourage a diverse range of qualified applicants
- Manage a senior-level group of Advisors who provide general strategic support, as well as direct guidance to Fellows
- Provide direct support to applicants and evaluators throughout the process
- Identify and develop organizational partnerships (such as with universities, professional service firms, or other nonprofits) that would be of benefit to fellows
Application / Events Leadership
- Manage the highly-detailed process of gathering applications and monitoring the judging/review process using our online application system
- Manage all aspects of events including our Finalist interviews, annual retreats, and other gatherings, with some help from support staff
NOTE: Echoing Green is has already received more than 1,000 applications for the pilot class of the BMA Fellowship, and the selection process is ongoing. The pilot class will be announced in July 2012.
CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Can clearly explain your deep passion for the work of social entrepreneurs to improve life outcomes for black men and boys
- Have a basic understanding of the field of Black Male Achievement, and be able to work knowledgeably with our Fellows
- Direct experience as a social entrepreneur. At a minimum, the candidate has had a meaningful experience in a start-up climate (where our Fellows are)
- An experienced networker, with some relevant existing networks and a readiness to build new ones with stakeholders at all levels
- Strong ability to work independently, but also desire for and experience with working in high-performing teams and across departments
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and committed to meeting deadlines and creating and improving processes
- High level of comfort with software such as MS Office, SalesForce.com
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree + seven (7) years experience, or graduate degree and equivalent. This is a full-time position based in New York City. Echoing Green offers a competitive compensation package, with benefits, commensurate with experience. Start date is March 2012.
